As one who grew up in the 60s I find it strange that those who want more music from that era have not made it to one of the dances that
"
The Agency" plays at. These guys are fantastic and play all the favorites from the 50s and 60s with incredible harmonies and authentic
music. If you haven't been do one of their dances and really love 50's and 60's music, you owe it to yourself to check them out.

I would like to hear more 60's and 70's music in the valley. The 60's and 70's were my times and never forgot the
music as I played in a band for years. I really don't care for all the country music that seems to be the norm here in
the valley. I would like to have some groups in the valley with good old rock and roll even some Bob Seger and Ted
Nugent even Alice Cooper style music. Let the good times roll. Anonymous

We grew up in Minnesota in the 50s and early 60s.  We really like the old style "Oompaa" music. They have Al
Mikesh over at Pharr South's friday dances in the winter.  Al plays every other Friday so we drive other there
whenever he plays.  We just love it! ... Dennis and Alecia

Interesting comments I have read. Some truthful but most done for advertisement and self promotion.
Come on people let us hear what you want, and keep the advertisement and self promotion out of the postings. DJ

I am from the 50's to 70's era.  I play live music with the
Northern Starr Band.  We play a large variety of music and it
is my opinion that if I want to hear canned music ie Branson type or DJ I can stay home and play CD's.
Live music is where it's at! .. Gene Bender

I grew up in the era of the 60's and 70's and really didn't like the music back then. I have always liked the easy
listening music of the 40's-60's. In the past 5 years or so I have gotten to hear and love the Country Classics. I think
we have a lot to offer but I also think there is much more room for growth. There is no reason for us not to be like
Branson as an entertainment hub for the state. The only thing holding us back is the lack of organization and a lack
of vision of what we really could have here in the Valley. I would like to see the entertainment attended by more
Valleyites and a blending of our older population with our winter Texan visitors. As an entertainer, I will continue to
try to showcase some of the very best hits of the 40's-70's in the areas of standards, Country , Rock & Roll and easy
listening.

RALPH & THE CRUISERS sincerely appreciate the reception of their rock-n-roll music.
Winter Texans have enjoyed their music for at least six years and their reputation keeps growning.
Look for their
schedule on this website.  The Cruisers have heard the call loud and clear and will
Rio Grande Valley who continue to rock to the music of
RALPH & THE CRUISERS.

It seems like there is a definite growing desire for Rock & Roll and DJ type music by Winter Texans, which is a
change from the past.  JC Sound Machine provides this exact type of entertainment and we are also geared to play
whatever music the Winter Texans desire.  We even take requests during a dance, which makes it fun for the
audience and dancers. Our motto is "we play what you want to hear" and we do in a high quality and entertaining
manner. When we started entertaining here in the RGV last year we believed the demand was here but the
Connection for adding credibility through your surveys for this desire. Good Job!

The 60's and 70's were my formative years.  A real time of change. I feel that there is too much Country music here
in the Valley. A little is good, too much is not good. Who would I resurrect? ... Big Brother & the Holding Company
with Janis Joplin.  Buddy Holly & the Crickets would really be cool too. Everly Brothers would be another. Geez, I
could keep going. Contemporary Artists?  Music . . . Santana  /  Comedy . . . Ron White.
Willing to pay more?   Absolutely, no question about it. I think the Branson folks should stay more in Branson. I
guess if you are a big fan of that style of entertainment it is ok, but if you are not they suffocate the artistic balance
here in the valley. Also, I think the Winter Texans should be more open to local talent, culture and offerings. For
example, Mariachi music is really good and the culture is rich.  I think it is always better to be open to new things
and not get stuck in what you only know.

I grew up in the 60's. I wish there was more Rock and Roll and Country dances. I would also like to see more dance
classes. I would like to see good Spanish Classes. The band from the past I would like to see is Bob Seger and
Buddy Holly. I don't like Contemporary Music, but I do like the Blues and Cajun. I don't mind paying more to see a
good band, but I don't attend concerts. I want to attend parties/dances. It can be BYOB or at a bar/club/lodge.
My favorite band in the Valley is the
Cruisers with Debbie Horn as second. I would also like to see Wes Thibodeaux
do his own shows. He is currently with the
Chicken House Opry but I don't like most of their show. I don't know what
happened to Pepe's On The River last year, but their big name entertainers were not there. I really missed that.
Their entertainment in general was not as good either, too much DJ Music.

I Grew up in the 50-60's. I like all kinds of music 40s swing to 70s rock n' roll, country and everything in between.
I wish Buddy Holly was still in Texas. I enjoy playing music for all the people what ever kind they wish, so keep
those requests coming.

In my opinion I believe we need to give the public what they're asking for so Faye and I are preparing shows that
will appeal to The New Winter Texans ... The Baby Boomers.
I've also noticed that many Activity Directors see the changes coming and are now booking us for more Soc Hop
type Dances and Shows.
My history also goes back to Country Music and I never leave it out on any of our shows. We always have great
respect for the music The Valley began with.

My husband and I grew up in the 1950's.  We were up north; our families were not country music fans.
We were Catholic, thus not exposed to gospel.  We liked the Rock N' Roll of the 50's and early 60's....Elvis,
Buddy Holly, etc.  But as we got older, we did learn to like bluegrass and some country, particularly those artists
who were pop or pop/country, such as John Denver and Johnny Cash. We now enjoy the many jams, but do not,
as a rule, go to "entertainment" shows.  Last year I sang a Beatles number at our jam...the emcee commented it was
the first time he had heard a Beatles song at a jam. We have done some other more recent songs, but often find that
the jam musicians don't know the music. So now that is a factor in my song choice.
There are few contemporary artists we would pay to see - perhaps Billy Joel or Barry Manilow...but the prices for
concerts by the likes of them would be prohibitive.

I say we need more 50's 60's 70's Rock N Roll. I would pay more to see the type of entertainment I want.
In my opinion, there is way too much country here.

Sharon & I have been seeing a lot more requests for Bob Seger, The Eagles, Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffet, and of
course the music of the 50's and 60's as well. It can be tricky mixing all the genre's when you do a dance or a show.
Most of the Winter Texans still like the older country music but enjoy the mix as long as Jim Reeves and
Eddie Arnold still have a place. We also do a lot of the New Country and George Strait and Kenny Chesney always
go over well. Gotta have that dance beat.
We welcome all requests at our shows though some times it's hard to fit them all in, in one night.

I must tell you that 75% of the groups or individuals are country and western and for someone like me that HATES
C&W, it really restricts what shows we can attend.
How about more middle of the road music including good listening songs, big band music..... etc.
We are in our early 60's and enjoy music but have not enjoyed much this year because of the selection...........
Looking forward to enjoying the valley next year with a change of music.........THANK YOU.....
I presume the price dictates who will come into the valley for entertainment but if you had good music
(read as NON C&W) we might consider paying more.
The Letter Men we saw last year at Fun and SUN RV hall was a GREAT SHOW...... what about more of this?
We also were at McAllen Centre at the Pops show by the symphony and it was great.......

Hi! Rod, I Grew up in the 50s & 60s. I feel you have a good mix of entertainment now performing in the Valley.

If it ain't country, it don't belong in Texas. In Texas, Bob Wills is still the king, and always will be.

I have been coming to the valley since 2002 and I have found that the entertainment is second to none. Where can
one go and get the number of varied artists that appear. The costs are unbelievably inexpensive. The dances that
one can enjoy happen pretty well every day somewhere in the valley and the bands are as varied as the type of
music that one enjoys. I feel that there is no need to make any drastic changes to what is offered except that I find
ending an evening at 10pm is early for the younger set now coming. Yes I am a baby boomer and one of the
reasons I enjoy the valley is for the above mentioned. "If it's not broken don't fix it"

My wife and I are from the 60's 70,s era and would like to see a little more rock and roll in the valley. I like some of
the music from some of the entertainers but it is the same stuff every year. I am trying to get our park to lean a little
more to DJ type music to spin more variety.
