The Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission opened December 4, 2006. This cemetery was dedicated in 2006 and is administered by the Texas Veterans Land Board. The current size of this cemetery is 75 total acres which have up to 25,000 plots for burial. Before the expansion of this cemetery, the initial phase of development contained 31 acres and 6,190 gravesites.
The Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery is the second Texas State Veterans Cemetery to be built and run by the Texas Veterans Land Board, under the Texas General Land Office. The cemetery will be expanded as needed and will eventually be capable of providing a final resting place for more than 25,000 Veterans and family members.
Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are special resting places, close to home, where friends, family and fellow Texans can honor Texas Veterans. The sacrifices they laid upon the altar of freedom will never be diminished or forgotten.
Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are built through a partnership between the State of Texas and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and are managed by the Texas Veterans Land Board. The burial benefits at this cemetery include a gravesite in any one of the open cemeteries with available space, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual care, a government headstone or marker, a burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate, at no cost to the family.
Any member of the United States Armed Forces who dies while on active duty or any Veteran who was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable may be eligible for burial in a national cemetery. Veterans whose only active duty service was for training while in the National Guard or Reserves are not eligible unless there are special circumstances (e.g., death while on duty or as a result of training).

The Veterans War Memorial Foundation of Texas provides an educational, cultural, and historical facility to assist our children, and future generations, to learn about the sacrifices of those who died in the service of their country. The Veterans War Memorial of Texas emphasizes the value of their legacy, and the important lessons which must be learned from those sacrifices.
Events on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Pearl Harbor Day are held each year with the support of the City of McAllen. Veterans, teachers, students, and all community members are encouraged to attend honoring all veterans for their service and remembering the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the United States of America.

The Brownsville Veterans Resource Center (BVRC) is a partnership between the City of Brownsville and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (McAllen Vet Center). The McAllen Vet Center provides counseling and education services to local veterans. Private office space and resources are provided to the McAllen Vet Center by the City of Brownsville at the BVRC.

Vet Centers across the country provide a broad range of counseling, outreach, and referral services to combat Veterans and their families. Vet Centers guide Veterans and their families through many of the major adjustments in lifestyle that often occur after a Veteran returns from combat. Services for a Veteran may include individual and group counseling in areas such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), alcohol and drug assessment, and suicide prevention referrals. All services are free of cost and are strictly confidential.

In addition to primary care, this clinic has primary care, behavioral health, nutrition, social work, telemedicine, pharmacy, Women's health, radiology, laboratory, optometry, physical therapy, and prosthetics services available to eligible veterans.

Open Access Scheduling System with the goal to schedule appointments within five to seven days of request.

Personal Care: Highly qualified primary care providers, specialty care referrals as needed.

In July 2012, ambulatory surgery procedures began at the HCC.
